Blue Bell is a popular brand that offers gluten-free ice cream options. We weren’t able to find any information on Blue Bell’s website about gluten-free items or how they avoid allergen and gluten cross-contact, so we reached out to Blue Bell to learn more. They replied and were helpful, giving more information than any other company that we have reached out to so far.

Steps Blue Bell Takes To Protect Us From Gluten

Thank you for contacting us! We always enjoy hearing from folks who enjoy our ice cream.

When creating our products, customer safety is our first and foremost priority. This includes following all labeling regulations. Please see the attached for more detailed information on food allergen control at Blue Bell.

Although we have ice cream flavors that include gluten, our manufacturing and cleaning policies and procedures eliminate any possibility of cross contamination of these products with others that do not contain these ingredients. Our compliance with the allergen listing requirements is to clearly label all of our product ingredients so that the consumer can protect themselves from potential allergens.

I have attached lists of our ice cream flavors that do not contain gluten. I have also attached a list of our snack products and Sherbet quarts.

Thank you again for reaching out and for your support of our products. From all of us here at Blue Bell, we hope you have a great rest of your day!

Blue Bell Creameries Food Allergen Control Letter

Blue Bell Creameries, L.P. is very aware of the role that food allergens play in the lives of children and adults that are sensitive to them. We understand it is imperative that people with food allergies must strictly avoid the foods that can cause an allergic reaction. We also realize the primary way for people to avoid such foods is to read product labels. In the case of children, we understand the parents and schools must assist with this process to make sure each child with a food allergy is protected. With this in mind, we hope that the information we have provided below will help to clarify and inform our customers and consumers about the processes related to food allergens at Blue Bell.

Blue Bell Creameries produces a wide variety of high quality frozen desserts for people of all ages to enjoy. Some of our products do contain ingredients that contain food allergens. Six of the eight major food allergens are used in Blue Bell manufacturing plants: Wheat, Soy, Eggs, Peanuts, Tree Nuts, and Milk.

If a specific Blue Bell product contains an allergen ingredient, it will be listed in the ingredient declaration on the label. There are times when non-allergen products are made on shared equipment that also produce allergen products. In order to protect our consumers and prevent cross-contact, Blue Bell employs a strict allergen control program. This program details all the steps we must take from receiving ingredients all the way through distribution of the finished products to prevent cross-contact with undeclared allergens.

The safety of our consumers is our top priority. While there are allergens present in the manufacturing facilities, Blue Bell does not utilize broad allergen disclaimers (i.e., “May Contain…” statements) on product labels. We feel this is not a substitute for a good allergen control program. We are confident in the accuracy of the allergen declarations on our product labels. We operate in accordance with the food safety regulations and guidelines of the FDA, State, and local health departments. We hope that this information will help to inform and reassure our customers and consumers about the allergens and associated control programs that are in place at Blue Bell Creameries.
